A SERIES IN THE MAKING by Marci Boudreaux

A SERIES IN THE MAKING
by Marci Boudreaux

Never before have I felt the need to make a series bible. Maybe because I’ve only written one series before and had no idea what the hell I was doing!

On to series two…the title is still a work in progress, but I have some ideas that I’m just waiting for my editor to tell me are crap so I can start over. (She’d say it very nicely, though.)

This new series is about a detective agency run and operated by some pretty kick ass dames who don’t take crap from nobody—especially the men in their lives. This is also completely out of the norm for me, so we'll see what (if anything) happens to it.

Meet the ladies of the yet to be named agency that will be doing awesome to be determined kick ass things! Also known as Em's imaginary friends for the next year or so.

Problem is, unlike my last series, I’m dropping all the characters into book one. Most will be in the background so I don’t boggle anyone’s brain with a huge cast. But, even so, my brain gets boggled so I gotta keep all these people and their nuances straight in my head.

And, that right there, folks, is what that whole series bible thing is for.

I get it now.

Since I’ve never done this before, I’m totally winging it. Pinterst pages. Word docs. Notes in two different notebooks that will eventually all be put in one place. I have pictures. Descriptions. Quotes. All kinds of things that someday, I’ll look at and go “DAMN! I totally forgot she’s got blue eyes not green!”

I’m working on getting organized enough to have all this in one place. I’ll get there. I’m just a wee bit slow, but I am taking this whole thing very seriously, y’all.

I’d love to introduce you to the ladies, but book one is still with my editor and I don’t want to jinx this series before it is even out of diapers, but keep an eye out. I think you’ll be hearing about them soon!

Until then…any suggestions on how to keep all this stuff straight?

As a teen, Marci Boudreaux skipped over young adult books and jumped right into the world of romance novels. She's never left. Marci lives with her husband, two kiddos, and their numerous pets. Until recently, she was a freelance writer appearing monthly in a variety of local magazines. She now focuses on writing and her work as a content editor.

Romance is her preferred reading and writing genre because nothing feels better than falling in love with someone new and her husband doesn't like when she does that in real life.

ROMANTIC RISOTTO from Susan Lodge

by Susan Lodge This easy recipe, that serves two, is ideal for Valentine's Day dinner with your special someone. Add a crisp salad, dry white wine, and candles then let romance flow.

ROMANTIC RISOTTO

  • 75g (3oz.) butter
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed or finely chopped
  • 200g (7oz.) Arborio risotto rice
  • 150ml (5 oz.) white wine
  • 75g (3oz.) mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
  • A few sprigs of fresh thyme leaves, stripped from the stalks
  • 500ml (18oz.) fish or chicken stock
  • 1 lemon
  • 100g (4oz.) green string beans, cooked and halved
  • 200g (7oz.) prawns (large shrimp), peeled and cooked
  • 3 - 4 thin slices of salami or chorizo, chopped, for garnish
  • 1 sprig of basil for decoration

Melt half the butter in a large saucepan and sauté the onion and garlic for about 3-4 minutes over a moderate heat.
Stir in the rice and mix well to coat the grains with the onion mixture.
Add the wine, mushrooms, and thyme.
Stir well.
Let the wine bubble and evaporate for a few seconds then stir in a ladle of stock.
Cook gently until the moisture has been absorbed by the rice.
Add the rest of the stock, a ladle at a time, making sure all the liquid is absorbed between additions. Stir frequently to prevent the rice sticking to the bottom of the pan.
This process should take about fifteen to twenty minutes. Taste the risotto. The mixture should be a moist texture and the rice tender.
Stir in the rest of the butter, juice from half the lemon, beans, and prawns. Take a few seconds to warm everything through then turn off the heat. Place a lid on the saucepan and let the risotto stand for a few minutes before serving.
Meanwhile fry the meat until crisp and use as a garnish for the risotto
Serve with a wedge of lemon.
Here's a little from my latest historical romance to peak your interest.

Marriage to a cruel dandy is not how Hetty Avebury envisions spending the rest of her life. Determined to avoid the match, she raises funds the only way she knows how – gambling. Her plans go astray and she finds herself on board a man-of-war under the care of its high handed physician. But Hetty soon realizes that Doctor Withington is not quite the stuffed shirt she had first imagined.

If it wasn’t bad enough declaring one of the pressed men as a woman, Robert has been tasked with the tiresome job of returning her safely back to her dysfunctional family. It was ten years ago when his father gambled away his inheritance, home, and any chance of marrying the woman he loved. So when Robert discovers Hetty gambling he takes drastic action to cure her of the habit.

New Wiccan Haus

Welcome to the Wiccan Haus!

Blurb
After a year of unemployment, Daphne Wells comes to Wiccan Haus to learn hydrotherapy for a new career as a healer. When her assigned patient turns out to be the sexy ex-boss who laid her off, resentment gets in the way of healing.

Giovanni Denaro arrives at Wiccan Haus, desperate to find a cure for the debilitating tension that threatens his high-level financial career. But after some intimate healing sessions, everything loses value except his need for Daphne’s forgiveness.

When a mermaid, filled with her own bitterness, offers Daphne a chance to get revenge on the man who ruined her life, will she dare to turn the tide?

Daphne’s heart accelerated, throbbing against the darkness around her. Much like her life, she couldn’t control anything on this lousy island, including the elevators. Next time, she’d take the stairs—if there were any.

Her senses converged on warm fingers, feather soft, brushing her cheek. Gripping more firmly. Harder. Then the mouth. Oh God, the mouth.

Giovanni’s lips followed the pattern of his fingers. Brushing softly at first. Then pressing into her flesh until she opened to him. When she stepped backward, her spine contacted the elevator wall. The handrail dug into her waist while his torso covered the front of her. His hands felt so hot on her bare shoulders. So why did she shiver?

How could she have forgotten how good he smelled? Warm and slightly spicy. Not like a high-level executive but best friend-turned-lover. Craving more, she inhaled to the depths of her lungs.

She heard and felt his fast, deep breaths, too. Oxygen rushed through her lungs, matching his pace. The small space they stood in had no boundaries. Walls, arms, hearts. They were all one.

“We c-can’t—” she uttered when she managed to twist her head away.

“Yes, we can,” he whispered. “We are.”

She’d forgotten how persuasive he could be. Despite its softness, his voice commanded her the way it did executives in the boardroom.

After drawing her closer, he inserted his tongue between her lips. It felt as if every muscle in her face had let go. She couldn’t keep him out—not that she wanted to.

You can’t stop me. I dare you to try.

Finishing a series.

So I actually did it I finished a series. Can you believe it?  I can not. Anyway so here is the forth installment in the House of Lords series. A series that was never meant to be one. But none the less became one.

When I wrote Duke and the Virgin. I never expected it to be anything but a one off. A dare to place the Decadent publishing 1 Night Stand series into the Regency time period. But it did well and my publisher asked me to write more so the men in the mysterious poker game came to life and now all four have their stories.

It's bitter sweet to end a series and say goodbye to characters that I have enjoyed getting to know. But its also comes with a sense of accomplishment. I actually finished what I set out to do. We may see these men in the background should I venture back into this genre again who knows.

For now enjoy the final installment. :)

Love doesn’t come easy and sometimes when it does come it isn’t strong enough to weather the storm. That is what Jonathon Edward Railey, Eighth Viscount of Aunton, found out the hard way. With his burden of family debt and eight younger brothers to feed, what woman would stick around?

Miss Isabel Hathaway might have loved the viscount once, but she would be damned if she would allow him to marry her for her money. Better to have never loved at all then to have him bought.

When fate throws them together again, will the love they once had be enough to see them through a new storm? Or are they destined to a life of want and heartbreak?
